My bad! University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley in the Southland Conference. McNeese State and Stephen F. Austin are also in that conference.

Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
Associate Head Coach Tanner Smith had an interview for the UTRGV head coach position as well.

Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
Lot of openings or soon-to-be openings that Kerns will likely receive interest from.

Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
Tre Mckinnon to the portal. That’s unexpected. Picked up quite a few local mid-major offers before committing here. From his HS highlights, he looked super athletic with a good shot. Was looking forward to seeing him next year. Anyone have any insight onto why he is leaving? Edit: I’d assume KJ Vas...

Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
No offense to UNCG, however, if the kid that decommitted from UNCG was one of the best athletes in recent times in NC, not sure how UNCG got him in first place. If he is that good, I have to believe the Big 4 would have made a much larger offer than UNCG. Seems a little weird to me. However, people...

Re: Luke Combs
Luke was just on the Bussin’ With The Boys podcast. He said he has no plans to donate to NIL unless there are some assurances such as two-year player contracts. He said his hot take is that he’d love for us to go back down to FCS so we could at least have a chance to win a national championship. For...

Re: Offseason thread: recruiting, transfer portal schedule, general discussion
Rather big development. Dionte Neal has decommitted from UNCG after their MBB head coaching change. One of the best NC high school athletes in recent memory. NC Basketball Gatorade Player of the Year as a junior. Averaging over 35 PPG this season. Top football recruit too. He wants to play both bas...

Re: Sun Belt Tournament 2026
It’s simple. For Kerns’ style of play, you need depth. With tired legs and/or injuries, you are unable to force teams to slow down to your pace as well. Need 8-10 guy rotation with a true backup PG and a smart sharp shooter. KJ Vasser was a big miss this year. Is a team like Georgia Southern, who is...

Re: Sun Belt Tournament 2026
We have hit our ceiling. Will not change until there’s more funding. The ROI for basketball is high. With most SBC schools pouring the majority of their money into football and baseball, we could realistically be the top program year in and year out with even a little more $$$. Otherwise it’s the sa...

Re: Sun Belt Tournament 2026
A Deeper Than Hate conference championship game would be perfect. As much as it pains me to say it, Ga Southern was the lower seed that I thought had the best chance to make a run. They ended up knocking down threes to beat USA’s zone and they have handled Marshall twice this year. They would be co...

Re: Sun Belt Tournament 2026
Southern Miss wins again! Like this matchup a lot more than Texas State. However, Tylik Weeks is a matchup nightmare. 6'7 225 point forward who is playing much more confidently than when we played them in January. In his last 7 games, he is averaging 26.7 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 3.7 APG. Southern Miss is unde...

Re: Sun Belt Tournament 2026
Big question for me is do the extra days of rest help our boys because of lack of depth or do we come out cold from the time off. We shall see. 9 times out of 10, time off hurts. Biggest example being the 2023-24 season. This year, we needed all the rest we could get. Hopefully, the rest pays off.

Re: #4 seed in Pensacol
Although Dodd should have tried scoring rather than kicking it out to Banks on the final play last night, I do wish he attacked to kick out more often. I crunched the numbers. He was 7-36 (19.4%) from 3 in January. He was 9-40 (22.5%) from 3 in February. Puts him at 16-76 (21.1%) for all of 2026. He...

Don’t count out Southern Miss or JMU going on a run and beating Texas State. JMU has been hot and Southern Miss is an enigma.

Re: #4 seed in Pensacol
We got very fortunate. Full week off to practice and rest. Only have to win 3 games and we miss out on Coastal and Marshall until the final. Great draw.

Everything hinges on this Southern-Marshall game. If Marshall wins, Coastal is ahead of us due to head-to-head wins against Troy and Marshall. Have to pull for the Eagles.

Re: MBB @ TXSt 02/27/26
It’s been evident Luke has been working on his FTs. He’s 21-29 (72.4%) in his last 3 games with most misses coming on tired legs at the end of the game.

Re: MBB vs Stink 2/21 1pm
Noticed this too. Great leadership by Dodd and Jennings. Outside of the Southern away game, he’s looked a step off all month. Love his game when he is on. Hopefully he just needs rest. It’s very apparent Dodd needs it too. Might be one of the rare occasions where having an extended break between th...
