App FH lands two '26 signees to HS All-American game roster

Before coming to Boone this fall, two of App' field hockey's incoming freshmen, (presumably twin sisters) Morgan and Chloe Hook, will be participating in the Longstreath High School Senior All-American game in July. The game features the 44 best high school seniors from last season. The two future M...

Re: Women's Flag Football

I’m guessing the NCAA classifies it as a spring sport? Yes. There was much debate and concern from the lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, and field hockey communities, with everyone trying to get it placed in the opposite season from their sports. Volleyball, soccer, and field hockey theoretically won o...

Re: FBS to be split- Now we know why schools paid heavy prices to move up

I didnt really think apathy had set on for me but then I had a huge wakeup call last Thursday night when I came home and found my wife watching the VCU-UNC game (she is a VCU alum). It was at that moment that I realized I didn't even know the basketball tournament had started.

That's a stupid name for them. If that's the case, how many of them will even attend class? I've heard a high-profile QB that just made the pro bowl at the last minute didn't step foot on campus except for football games. Then heard another high-profile QB that lost in the natty didn't attend class...

Re: The J Cline Memorial Celebrity Obituaries

Catherine O’Hara passed away yesterday at the age of 71. Man, she was a comedic genius. I recently watched the wonderful Amazon documentary on John Candy, and of course as an SCTV alum and long time friend/associate of Candy, O'Hara was a major figure in the story telling. All of those folks that a...

Re: Boone Area Chamber of Commerce Award

Forgive my ignorance, I haven't lived in Boone for over 20 years, and while I make it to town as often as I can, I don't know Boone today like a local would. My question is this: are there enough "large businesses" in Boone to make this an actual award? I assume the way the press release is written ...

Re: One free Greensboro Gargoyles Ticket for 23 Jan 2026

I like that Greensboro is back in the ECHL but wish they called them the Monarchs like the good ol' days. I loved going in high school to watch the Monarchs take on all the classic ECHL teams like the Norfolk Admirals, Dayton Bombers, Johnstown Chiefs, Richmond Renegades, whatever random name they g...

Re: G6 playoff gaining momentum

None of this is unprecedented. You have 134 FBS programs and 12 playoff slots. College football is far more like European Soccer than it is like the NFL and we should begin to follow their model. The UEFA Champions League takes the top finishers (number determined by a competition coefficient after...

Re: The J Cline Memorial Celebrity Obituaries

When I was at App (88-93), it was kind of a big deal that the water wheel outside of Geno's was used in The Princess Bride movie. It was one of the first times I realized the extraordinary lengths that film makers go to get one aspect of a scene. Like, couldn't they just build out a water wheel on ...

Re: The J Cline Memorial Celebrity Obituaries

I don't think Rob Reiner gets included among the great filmmakers of his generation as much as he probably should, compared to people like Speilberg or Scorsese, because he has made "lighter" or "fluffier" films, including, God forbid, comedies. But how else should one look at a catalogue including ...

Re: ACC

ACC is on fumes. 2029 ? It would not shock me. It is going to be interesting to see how it plays out. It really should be P3 now. Once Clemson, UNC, and FSU leave the ACC we will become a G7 with Pac-12 and ACC losing all their powers. Add Miami to that list as well. The rest of the league offers l...

Re: How long will we have access?

Random Thoughts. If it is truly going to be an NCAA championship, then every conference needs representation. There are ten conferences in FBS, All ten conference champions should make the field. They could do 6 at large bids and that's it, 16 teams no byes. OR They could up the number of at large ...

Re: ACC

Indiana and Duke woke up today P4 conference champs. What a wild season. How long will the Clemsons, Penn States, and Floridas of the world tolerate the likes of Duke, Virginia, Indiana, Georgia Tech, and Vanderbilt being good before they start calling to go back to the old ways of college football?

What is the percentage of football, basketball and I’ll add baseball players who actually stick it out at the schools they sign with. You really never see or hear those numbers. I wager it’s probably much higher than 50%- at least I hope so. I agree with your sentiment in general, but somewhat rela...

Re: FB at No. 24 JMU, 3:30 p.m., ESPN+

I am fairly confident App has a very good record again ranked JMU teams in all sports since they joined the SBC. App has already beat a ranked JMU team this fall. I had little hope for App in the game until I saw the number next to JMU

I have been really busy this past weekend but have a lot of thoughts on this season. --quick OT shout out to my daughters' Trinity Titans for their 5-2 win in the VISAA D1 field hockey state championship game Saturday. VISAA D1 is the large private schools in Virginia and probably one of if not the ...

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season

18 spots. I assume nice conferences. They should go to 20 teams and each corner of the bracket can have one round 1 game that feeds into 3 teams starting in round 2. There are 10 conferences and 8 at-large (the ACC will be getting 4 of the 8 this year). I would like it to go to 10 and 10. Actually,...

Re: 2025 Women's Field Hockey Season

This has to to be the strongest conference year App has been in in decades, maybe ever. I don't ever remember the NorPac being this strong. It would be good to see the MAC get some recognition for an at-large bid, but I am sure history plays a lot in this as it does in other sports. I could probabl...

Seven seniors were recognized Friday, and many of those have been key contributors during their entire career at App. This season was a testement for the value of experienced teamwork was I would guess (though I haven't checked) they are the most successful senior class in App field hockey history. ...

Re: Winning….

For me, the real eye opener was when one of my daughters asked why I watched sports so much. My answer was, "because it's fun." She just said, "ok," and went about her business, but my own answer stuck in my head. OT, but this statement sums up a majority of the non-serious or casual conversations ...
