I suppose the “Doeren always beats UNC and I always beat App State” argument didn’t hold as much sway as he thought it would.

He'll be somewhere next year. His forte at State was the recruiting trail.

We aren’t the same program as before. Wins aren't difficult.

Yeah, Beck found that out the hard way.

Leading candidate appears to be South Carolina defensive coordinator Clayton White.

Do they want the previous South Carolina offensive coordinator?

When App was mostly a sub 500 team if that is what you want to claim as your highlight reel.

Why do some folks here still insist that teams circle the App game, believe beating us is their “Super Bowl”, etc. Hope those days return but that’s simply not the case. Coaches cannot be getting fired based on their head to head with App State.

You are correct. He was fired because he inherited a Sun Belt champion and contender but the program dropped to being mediocre. It took a 6-6 record in year 3 for their admin to see the writing on the wall and make a change. They did not wait until another 5 or 6 win season. Good foresight on their part.

Beating us , again, saved Clay Helton’s job.

The point I made nearly in the thread was sarcasm; CCU beating App three seasons in a row really wasn’t worth much.

I think we are all piling on with various self deprecating statements and humor.

Coastal calls App State "The School in Boone" in public and has a giant mural in their facility of a player after a touchdown in front of Miller Hill basking in a hundred middle fingers. Last year in Conway, their fans and players didn't celebrate a midfield after their win, then went to taunt App State. There's the "F App State" chants that go from the parking lot to the walk to in the stadium and walking out of the stadium. Then there's wearing black at home against App State every single time. Then there was the whole "planting the flag at midfield" thing just a few weeks ago. And then a CCU official had the gaul to publicly claim the flag "wasn't placed" at midfield despite video evidence to the contrary.
They've circled App State every year since joining the Sun Belt and will continue to do so.

That's funny because they would never have been in the Belt if not for App State's efforts on their behalf.

Rivals at all levels make the thing go right. Rivals make it out of sight.
