I heard we got this done late as classes had already started but if Kerns believes this guy can help us then I think it is the right thing for admissions to make an exception here. Our standards are already above the NCAA standard and I don't think Kerns would have tried to get this done if he did not think this guy can help us. In Kerns I trust on this. He has earned that.

Does anyone have any insight to who is trending for our starting 5 and maybe first 2-3 off the bench. I can guess that Huntley and Tate are starters. Looking forward to our first game 10 or so days away!

not really insight, just a hunch.....
1- Tate
2- Conners or Muttilib (both can shoot and averaged 14 and 19 pts per game at juco level)
3- Threadgill (experienced, tough, known as a shooter)
4- Huntley
5- Beaubrun (the only newcomer that Kerns mentioned at media day - D1 transfer who led SFA in rebounding)
Bench...
My guesses would be...
1- Dodd (PG who who started at Texas A&M Commerce - led them in assists, 3rd in steals)
5- Wilson (Kerns says he expects him to be in the rotation)
no idea on others...maybe Ezeagu at the 4 (juco) or Marcus
maybe Alston - freshman, but was known as a lockdown defender in HS
Njock - film looks great, but folks have mentioned the possible season ending injury.

That's weird. Here it was. Stanback actually deleted both today's post asking for his NLI release and the RT of his signing.
He was likely going to be redshirted next season at App anyway, according to a very reliable source. Not sure why other than maybe needing to add muscle. I thought he had a huge ceiling, but also didn’t see any other offers for him.
I wonder what the situation is here? Was he asking to leave because of something he did or something that happened on campus? If Kerns thinks he is just trying to go to a bigger program I would make him sit out a year.
Stanback is on the end of the bench for Alabama St in the first 4 game right now. No stats on the season or playing time that I can see, although he is dressed out.

Any updates on Njock?
Working out with no limitations. On schedule to play next season. Assuming all goes according to plan .

We are in conversations now with two that I’m aware of , will be more certainly as right now target is five . They are graduates. Both or either would start , again my opinion . If we land those two and everyone else returns that we expect, that’s a solid starting five . It might be however that better options become available as things progress and on the downside we do have a player or perhaps two that will be recruited and offered money. I believe one has already been approached. If we lose him our strategy changes of course.

The only player eligible to return next year that I could imagine getting a money offer would be Wilson. Would hate to lose him.

I’m also eager to see how Michael Marcus Jr. develops in an App uniform.

Abson's case study hopefully keeps him in Boone for at least 1 more year.

Every situation is different and most of these guys have a “that’s not going to happen to me”, mentality.

Oh I agree for sure. Just can’t imagine schools taking a look at 4ppg in 13 mpg (Guessing Wilson’s stats) and saying, I want to pay that guy. Abson was far ahead skill wise of Wilson 2 years into their career and Abson barely sniffed the floor this year. It could be about projectability though, or just believing advice, whether it’s wrong or right.

Thanks. So the player was OK coming to App but couldn't academically qualify for Coastal, if I'm reading that right?
This seemed like a crappy way of treating a recruit.
EDIT: I'm talking more about trying to get him to decommit. If you think he's not a right fit anymore, I'd say cut him loose instead of forcing him to make that decision.
Agree. Kerns yanked Stanback’s scholarship at the last moment. Stanback was defensive player of the year for Alabama State this season.

311, just be clear on Wilson, he averaged 28 min. per game and 10.5 points per game and 8.5 rebounds and a couple blocks per game. With his size and rebounding ability... he is certainly attractive for a high mid-major or lower P4 and could get paid and at least two yrs of eligibility. I do agree with whoever said that he could further refine his game offensively and play a ton of minutes and be in a much better position to negotiate after next season.

If Wilson gets a half decent offer, that is more than App can offer, he should strongly consider. He gets 2 years at a higher payment. And we are being honest, he gets better practice opponents to have opportunity to get better.
For year one, he may get limited minutes given offense is somewhat limited. However, if he has the desire to get better similar to transforming his body.. he could see more playing time in Year 2.

Correct. Wilson is a solid player. Same as Abson was after his Soph. year.
Wilson does probably have an inch and 20 lbs on Abson though. Might also be half a step quicker.

Abson, 3ppg, 3rpg, 1.5 bpg his senior year.
But he has $200k more than he would have at App, hard to turn down at age 20.

In the short term I can see why but I do wonder what his pro chances would have been had he stayed at App? He is not a NBA guy but I thought he could have gone overseas and made good money. It will be interesting to see what happens with his career. I really only care from a study standpoint. I hope our basketball folks track this stuff of those who leave and compare them to Huntley when recruiting players to stay. I am going to be curious to see if we ever lose anyone who ends up making it in the NBA and clearly improving their stock when they left App? I have to assume any player going to a power program has the NBA on their mind along with the immediate money.
