K&W Cafeteria has long been discussed on the MMB, I saw today that all locations will be closing as of today. I haven’t been to one in probably 30 years, but I remember my father and his family would eat at the one in Winston any chance they got.

I thought they got bought out.

Sad day. Where will I get the country style steak now.

Spent many a Sunday lunch at K&W as a kid when I thought it was decidedly average, then as soon as I hit 40 and am ready to go to dinner at 5, they close their doors. The cruel irony of it all.

Sad, time marches on.

Hate they are gone. The location in W-S by Thruway shopping center was a regular stop for our family as a young boy. The Green Bay Packers used to stay on that hotel when they practiced at WFU. But my run in with Lombardi is a story for another day.

Best memory of worst dinner. My wife and I were in the one in Charlotte on Independence years ago. The evening before our first daughter was born. She was in pre labor pains and was miserable. She cried the entire time. Our 1st one arrived about the same time the next day.

Used to have one at the mall I worked during the summer before college. It was K&W one day... Pizza place the next day..

I never much cared for it, but it’s still sad to see it go.

My grandmother loved the place so we went often as a kid. My biggest memory was the pressure of having to decide what to get. People breathing down my neck and the lady asking in a monotone voice “whata have?” If I didn’t decide in 3 seconds she hit me with it again. Food generally seasoned (or lack there of) for seniors. Nah I’ll pass.

Best baked spaghetti on earth ..... What for you? Vegetable? What for you? Still rings in my ears.

This news might be my grandma’s final straw. Good thing she doesn’t have Wi-fi and might not see it.

Grew up loving their chicken and dumpling and used to go a lot with family a few years ago. Will be missed for nostalgia.

I went to the Healy Drive location in Winston-Salem all the time as a kid. My mom and I would go when dad was out of town (unless we went to Quincy's instead). We'd usually arrive for dinner right as the "blue hairs" were leaving. Chicken and Dumplings with Chocolate Pie for dessert was my go to.

Wish I had known. Would love to have some roast beef with one last time.

I love cafeterias, but haven't been to one in years because I hardly ever see them anymore. KW in Winston was my last experience, and that was probably 15 years ago or more.

You better have a decision ready regarding your meal when you get to the front of the line.

Reading this thread it is clear why they closed down. I am just surprised it took this long as it doesn't sound like anyone has eaten there in the past 15-20 years.

Covid did a number on buffet and cafeteria type restaurants and many never recovered. Kind of hard to have delivery for those places.
