Nobody said they are the most important thing. You simply said that they don't matter and gave an example of a game with bad free throw shooting that was won. I can give way more examples of cases where a team lost close and was awful at the free throw line, which would have been the difference. Show me a championship team who is below 65% from the free throw line. It is rare if it ever happens. Free throws are fundamental and should be easy points. We need to improve in this area or we won't win the tournament.NattyBumppo'sRevenge wrote: ↑Fri Feb 27, 2026 9:35 pmThey matter, but other things matter moreAppStFan1 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 27, 2026 9:14 pmI thought some folks said free throws are not important? LOL. People should go look at box scores of games that were less than 10 points and then see how the losing team did at the free throw line. It is amazing how many teams who shoot below 70 percent at the free throw line would have won if they could hit closer to 80+. Hope we don't lose this game by single digits and see that we missed 10+ free throws.

I thought it was a good look as well but he did not need to do it. We were down 1 so we just needed to drive. I rather go in for a contested shot with a chance at free throws. Hit the shot or free throws and you win.AppinVA wrote: ↑Fri Feb 27, 2026 10:08 pmIt actually was a good look. I agree about the style, but he did an unbelievable job this year. The talent on this team is much lower than it takes to win a championship. He had these guys outperforming.

Re: MBB @ TXSt 02/27/26
I’m sure part of Texas State’s calculus was knowing we couldn’t make anything. Refs notoriously swallow their whistles in that spot. As bad as we had shot, a catch and shoot three for your best player at that isn’t a bad possession. Just so so frustrating how we gave away both this game and the Marshall game considering the circumstancesAppStFan1 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 27, 2026 10:15 pmI thought it was a good look as well but he did not need to do it. He does it every year. Maybe if his funding would be on par with even, like, UNC Greensboro he could play with players that can make free throws and hit important shots sometimesCharlotteApp05 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 27, 2026 10:15 pmI agree about the style, but he did an unbelievable job this year. Finished the regular season 1-3. Again a very familiar trend over most seasons under Kerns.

Maybe because he can only afford like 6 basketball players that can play at this level and they’re all dead

Southern Miss up 17 with like 4 to play. I’d hit the Jags live because surely not one result could possibly go our way

Re: MBB @ TXSt 02/27/26
Can anyone answer, do we have the tiebreaker over Coastal or A State?
We split with Coasta and never played A State? I’m assuming no because that’s how things work

If it’s record against top teams, think we get 4th, but worried that since we never played Arky State that it will go to NET which will put us in 5th.

Everything hinges on this Southern-Marshall game. If Marshall wins, Coastal is ahead of us due to head-to-head wins against Troy and Marshall. Have to pull for the Eagles.

Crazy night ... USM beats SOAL .. GASO beats Marshall...... it was are kind of game. Killed them on the rebounds we had some bad possessions at the end of the game. Dodd's turnover killed .... I hate to say it but Dodd and Jennings looked tired. They played good D though.Luke Wilson and Michael Marcus were freaking beasts on the boards... I really hope we can keep them another year.

Thing with the new tiebreaker rules is that in any tie that involved two teams that didn't play, such as App and Arkansas State, head to head against each other involving all tied teams no longer matters. You go to the record against the next team in the standings until the tie is broken.

Really bad. The sad part is that this is pretty much the same bad that’s been around since Kerns arrived. Ugly to non-existent offensive coordination, free throw’s, simple inbounds plays. Win some , lose some, that’s what we got! Hard to build fan support and attendance under this type of operation.

Re: MBB @ TXSt 02/27/26
If we just had one guy that can consistently knock down 3's and FT. Instead we have a bunch of guys that are streaky shooters. The fouls on Marcus and Wilson midway through the first changed the game. Both had to be careful not to pickup a third and Texas State went on a run by attacking the lane. Credit them for recognizing it and making the shots.
