It's a good thing GSU built that fancy new arena, huh?

They must have heard y’all dog-cussing them earlier this week over the free throw woes.

Re: 1/8 - MBB at Georgia State - 7pm
Nice to get a win. Any news on when Banks may return? We're so thin at guard that getting him back will be big.
Hopefully we can grab the win tomorrow as the SB field starts to seperate. It's a bummer that SB looks so weak this year... but at least it means the tournament is wide open.
SB will be lucky to not place a team into the play-in, but looking that way....

Glad to get the win ,but I can’t put a bow on this pig. The Game was ugly, as usual, and my opinion is that we won because they were worse than us.

I love how every game thread is the exact same as long as Dustin’s been here
Lots of complaining, that one long scoring drought, missed free throws. Then every time we win it’s the same…
“Man, a win is a win, but that was ugly!”
Not saying anyone is, but at this point, who is surprised by this? I love Kerns, I think he’s a good coach. There are plenty of things I’d like cleaned up, but clearly after this many years, it’s his style. Ugly it up and try to pull it out in the end.
GO APPS!!

Maybe he just needs a good offensive coordinator

Only so much you can do these days. We are going to mediocre unless we find a huge influx of money for paying coaches/players. That goes for bball and football I'd say.appstate24 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 9:47 amI love how every game thread is the exact same as long as Dustin’s been here![]()

Currently doesn't seem like we have the resources to make it to even that level. Hope that changes.proasu89 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 10:30 amBut…..somebody has to be the best in the Sun Belt. If $400k is the correct current number for NIL. My guesstimate is that $1.0 million would have us competing for SBC championships.biggie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 10:57 amCurrently doesn't seem like we have the resources to make it to even that level. Give us $2.0 million, we may be a formidable mid-major. Coaching matters. Although the offensive style of play is not to my taste, we have historically had good defensive teams. Our offense would look better if the shots would fall.

We actually moved the ball with passes very well last night. Other than Tot, our open shots were winged prayers most of the game. Air balls and bricks of spectacular volume.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 11:05 amIf $400k is the correct current number for NIL. When we actually started taking the ball to the rack and feeding the low post, the offense looked legitimate.

I suppose being the tallest midget isn’t pretty, but it’s still enough to get the job done from time to time.

Re: 1/8 - MBB at Georgia State - 7pm
Yes, agreed on ball movement. But ga.. st. Is not very good. We need another 12 from last year. Jennings is decent but his handle is not as good as 12. We also need a game changing point guard. Dodd has improved, however we need an upgrade to be SBC contender worthy.. none of the guys at the 2 position are shooting at a high enough shooting %. My comments are all relative to idea of being an abc contender. I like the hustle and the "want to" of the team. It is that we are just not that productive on the offensive end of the court even when open.WASU 93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 09, 2026 12:19 pmWe actually moved the ball with passes very well last night. If I were an up and coming coach I would seek out the Sunbelt. A good coach with good recruits could dominate this conference and get to the p4 level and get paid. ( I would think 2 or 3 year in a row of NCAA appearances would get the p4 look)

If Kerns had a little more than that one really good year he probably could have already been gone. Just wasn't enough consistency around the one really good season.

Re: 1/8 - MBB at Georgia State - 7pm
Nothing but a bad storm of players wanting money, wanting playing time and having outside locker room influences - instead of wanting to win it again. It was hard for some, but not others, and a few saw others leaving and just decided to get in the out of town boat. Correct me if I am wrong but Kerns wanted to do it again, not leave, if the nucleus had stayed and the record was similar then he might have been a target of a better job? His coaching record at app is basically 50-50 except that one season. Unless they get motivated an gel this season could be his first loosing season at app. He is good but dare I say the philosophy needs to shift from defense to offense - he is a good coach - all the players that left wanted more "scoring" except for probably Abson - he is a shot blocker all day. So he found the offensive team back them...lets use those lenses again?
