I like Banks as a Two , certainly ok with the ball in his hands but not the level we need at point. If he gets focused he can be a double digit scorer for us. My opinion .

UTEGV is a tough spot to coach basketball. They play baseball and soccer in that area and that’s about it.

If Banks, Wilson, Vasser, Moodie and Brim all return, that’d be amazing. Wilson staying would be considered a surprise for me. Hope we can make it work but if he wants the money, it’s there for the taking.

I wouldn’t begrudge Wilson for leaving, but I could see him staying since we gave him a chance and worked with him when he was so new to the game.

I think it’s still 50/50. I am concerned about the coaching changes and new guys building rosters with deep pockets. If he comes back I believe he has Sunbelt player of the year potential. With another year of eligibility he could easily be looking at a million plus , maybe a million and a half in ‘28. My take anyway.

Legit shot at Sunbelt player of the year. The Sunbelt is a weak conference and he has a good chance of making that happen with lots of double/doubles. I would think $2,000,000 with the Sunbelt player of the year title. Chaze Harris is 6'6" and 175 pounds. Wilson is a legit big man if he can find some offense in the off season and a better free throw shooting percentage. I think he will.

We need to find a pure shooter and a point guard to go with Wilson and Banks.

We have a NAIA transfer commit but I can't build a profile for him yet since 247 doesn't list Georgia Gwinnett College in it's database. I'll put his info here and will build a profile as soon as the site adds GGC.

G Devontre Chaney (6' 5") of Frostproof High School in Frostproof, FL/Palm Beach State/Georgia Gwinnett

As long as he does not have to guard out in 3 point land. Guy is not fleet of foot.

At 7'9 he probably wouldn't have to. Stand at the free throw line and put your arms up. That's like shooting over 10'.

I like the Lenoir Rhyne 7'2 kid. Hopefully he is in play for us.

Hard to imagine how Kerns feels deep down about this - Kerns literally took a football player with a football body that wanted to play basketball, had some skill and turned him into what he is now. This one has to cut deep. I imagine Kerns can compartmentalize things, but this one is a big blow. Like some say "next man up" but you put a lot of time, talent and money into someone - hopefully Wilson will not forget about the Black and Gold. Tough part of the job these days.

I hate all of this. I'd love for Luke to stay, but to your point Kerns was also interviewing for another job...so maybe he entered the portal thinking his coach was out the door too.

Is anyone surprised by this? I certainly am not. He was the defensive player of the year for the Sun Belt, no way he was staying here. The days of App retaining all conference players are gone and I doubt they return unless something significant changes in college sports.
