Re: 2026 Baseball Mega Thread
One series at a time.
With that said, our remaining schedule is against teams currently at the bottom of SBC. On paper, we have a chance to win more series and hopefully lock up at least 3rd in SBC.
Let's keep rolling.

Now, how will the JMU Comms department top that masterpiece of an IG post they shared yesterday?

Not sure, but their message board doesn't even mention their baseball team. Spoiled fair weather fans those purple pansies are.

Should South Alabama take 2 from Southern Miss this weekend and we sweep the Stink, the Diamond Apps are in sole possession of 2nd place.

We travel to Troy on May 1-3. Troy is ranked No. 60 in RPI and one of the teams we’re currently tied with.BambooRdApp wrote: ↑Sun Apr 19, 2026 7:13 pmOne series at a time.

That is correct. I forgot about that when typing the response.. their rpi will be lower after we beat them...AppGrad78 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 20, 2026 8:57 amWe travel to Troy on May 1-3. Absolute gem from the pitching staff.
We can win high scoring games and low scoring!

10-3 in our last 13 since the Southern Miss series.
Gotta take care of business this weekend. 2 out of 3 is a minimum. Sweep would be excellent.

Re: 2026 Baseball Mega Thread
A month ago I was off the Kermit bandwagon. So many close losses and the team seemed snakebit and error prone in tight games. Now it's a total 180. Errors are slowing down, team is getting healthy and hitting the bajezus out of the ball (top team average in the Sun Belt).

Re: 2026 Baseball Mega Thread
That's okay. It is a common theme with us on the YC and can be an affliction related to any sport we cheer for at App..St. It is commonly referred to as the "App cannot have nice things" syndrome. Heck, if we won all of our remaining SBC series and then lost to Western Carolina for a 3rd time, people would still be jumping off cliffs about the team.
.
(Yes, I realize we do not play Western again.)

I wonder who leads YC in fire the coach posts- counting every sport. Expectations are truly unreal.

Re: 2026 Baseball Mega Thread
Serious question....On the RPI/Net rankings in baseball, does it hurt more to lose to a 200 net team or help more to win against a 100 net team? I am 100% sure in my mind all of our efforts should be placed on winning against Sunbelt teams.....but.....but...sometimes my mind leans to do we really want a news story locally that we lost to Queens or WCU or whatever small college vs a non local news story of we lost to Louisiana. I guess the question is where would you throw your best pitcher?

Re: 2026 Baseball Mega Thread
The errors were/are very frustrating, but I don't think that was a coaching issue given how good we typically are. I think the lack of indoor facility this winter made a bigger impact on baseball than most realize.T-Dog wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2026 9:01 pmA month ago I was off the Kermit bandwagon. Same boat for me. We are on a roll in conference play.T-Dog wrote: ↑Tue Apr 21, 2026 9:01 pmA month ago I was off the Kermit bandwagon. But it's hard to overlook getting swept by GWebb and destroyed by Western twice.
He's the right man, person, and coach for the job- won't find a better person. Just needs some more help on the funding side of things.
Tweak the OOC schedule (harder) and we're grooving. Give us a chance to get an ALB if we don't win the SBC.
If we're going to lose in OOC- lose to Clemson, or Georgia, Or UVA.

Re: 2026 Baseball Mega Thread
Hurts more to lose to 200 net. (Gwebb, Queens, A&T, any of the St. teams from the NE). Most of our OOC is made up of Q4 teams minus midweeks.spacemonkey wrote: ↑Wed Apr 22, 2026 9:17 amSerious question....On the RPI/Net rankings in baseball, does it hurt more to lose to a 200 net team or help more to win against a 100 net team? A win always helps.
Away wins/losses are weighted the most.
If you're going to lose, lose to a top 100 team and do it away.

3 Quad 4 games this week end vs the Stink.
We sit at 101 RPI today- pretty solid!!! (We were 191 in after week 6)
This is a must win series at home for a lot of reasons (rival-screw Stink, SBC standings, RPI metrics) against a 200+ ranked team.
