Coastal blew it, so they're #2 and in our bracket.

Southern Miss wins the regular season title outright.

Yup, tough drawing indeed. Won't win it with poor baserunning, cold bats and sloppy fielding. These boys have all the tools, just have to put it all together for a few days.

If the game is at 9, do we take BP at 6am?

Bad loss to a bad team. Self inflicted. Very poor performance , two series in a row.
Losing two to the conference cellar dweller heading into tournament time doesn’t provide much confidence.
That Louisiana cellar dweller just took the series from Coastal as well. They started slow but have finished strong. We should have beaten GSU though.

We played in those early games in 23 and 24 as well. Time to get payback on Texas State for knocking us out last year, and officially end their time in the SBC.

Any bracket for the tournament will be difficult. I am not sure what is going on with coastal. Are they coasting or just not playing as well as compared to a few weeks ago. One would think they would still be focused as trying to get a regional host. I think that ship may have sailed. If not playing as well as earlier in the year, may be it is better for us as USM does seem to hit its stride

La La has an RPI of 39 , Georgia State is 130. We are just outside the top 100 at 104.

Not a good OOC performance this year. 2 ETSU wins and that’s about it.

Played well in Conference between the first and last 6.

I wonder if being shorthanded on pitching finally took a toll as the season grind hit? They had good replacements but that lack of depth wears on a team eventually.

To me, several games were lost on the little things. Baserunning, bunt calls, bunt coverages, situational awareness. Good talent on the team, but they didn't always seem to be well prepared. Its always the little things.

Our pitchers only allowed 9 total runs in the three GSU games so they weren't the problem. Our bats went from averaging 10+ runs per game to 2 in each of our losses against one of the worst pitching teams in the SBC. And we averaged 3.5 runs per game in our two losses to UL.

It does worry me that we didn't finish strong, but we were just one run away from winning the series vs UL (RPI of 40) and 3 runs away from sweeping GSU. You also have to consider we didn't have much to play for in the last couple games and GSU was fighting for a tournament spot.

Excuses won’t carry a lot of weight going forward. My read anyway.

We were also 1-2 games out of 5th-8th place. Got real lucky with how it finished after losing 4 of 6 down the stretch.

I wonder if no midweek game has saved arms, but come at the expense of our offense?

That's a good theory. I hope you're right and it's not a trend that will continue Wednesday!

Smith being out of the lineup didn’t help.
